School speed clampdown

POLICE are urging people to drive with care as schools across the state re-open this week.
Starting last Monday, school speed zones of 40km an hour and reduced speed limits around schools come into effect.
Through a number of operations police will be targeting drivers who put students and teachers at risk.
Southern Metro Road Policing Inspector Greg Parr said the message to motorists was clear.
“We will be enforcing school speed zones and road safety around schools,” he said.
“While the majority of students are not due back into the classroom until later this week, schools will be well and truly open with teachers and staff busily preparing for the year ahead.
“These speed zones are in place to save children’s lives and police will be out ensuring all motorists comply.”
