Child filmed in changing room

POLICE have issued a warning to parents after reports that a child was filmed changing in a leisure centre change room.
Police said they received a report on 11 January that an eight-year-old girl was changing in a locked cubical in the female change rooms at Casey RACE in Cranbourne East.
Her friend observed a teenage boy reaching over the top of the cubicle with a mobile phone and he appeared to be filming the girl.
Senior Constable Kieran Rodgers said it was a very serious incident and advised parents to accompany their children to change rooms and be aware of anyone who was acting suspiciously. “It is not something that has been reported before at that venue, but obviously the police are taking it very seriously,” Sen Const Rodgers said.
Wes Hurrey from YMCA Victoria said his organisation banned mobile phones and cameras from changing rooms.
“This is the first alleged occurrence of such an incident at Casey Race,” he said.
“In terms of the facility, we have a high level of supervision within reason to what staff can handle. “Change rooms are checked every 15 to 30 minutes and there are cleaning people on site.
“But we do encourage parents to supervise their children and we support the police in their investigation.”
Police have released a face-fit image of the person they want to speak about in relation to the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Senior Constable Kieran Rodgers at Narre Warren Police Station on 9705 3111.- Lia Bichel
