Lisa’s Flat-out win

TALENTED horsewoman Lisa Miles collected her second Traralgon Pacing Cup at the Warragul harness race meeting last Friday.
Miles trained and drove Staghorn Flat to win the $6000 race. The victory came after she trained Whitten to win the event when it was reintroduced at Warragul in 2006.
Staghorn Flat hadn’t been showing the form lately that he had in the past, but was still respected by punters in Friday’s race, and scored his first victory in almost 12 months.
The event was action packed with Janball and First Shilling galloping during the race and disorganising the field.
Favourites punters copped a rough deal in the third race of the day when Soho Aphrodite suffered interference at a crucial stage, causing a sulky wheel to puncture. The $1.40 favourite dropped out to be beaten by 112 metres.
Winner of the race was $44 shot Matilastar for trainer/driver Micheal Quadara.
Long-priced placegetters in the event produced a trifecta dividend of nearly $15,000 for a lucky punter.
Art Shadow and Tsonga also won as hot favourites in their races.
A good midweek crowd attended with on-course betting higher than at the club’s previous Sunday meeting.
Preparations are in full swing for the club’s showcase event, the Warragul Pacing Cup, to be held on 24 April, Easter Sunday.
As well as the feature cup race and the traditional support program, the popular Fashions on the Field contest makes a welcome return.
