Marathon effort

By Emma Sun
Ms McKnight, of Berwick, is participating in the Sri Chinmoy Williamstown Around the Bay in a bid to raise money and awareness for the Doxa Youth Foundation.
Although she doesn’t think of herself as much of a runner, Ms McKnight said she was persuaded to do the 42-kilometre run by Patrick Herft, the owner of PH Massage in Narre Warren and chose to support a charity at the same time.
“The Doxa Youth Foundation supports children and young adults who the education system hasn’t been able to fully support because of their learning disability or they’ve had a really hard time in life,” Ms McKnight said.
“We supported the charity through work and I really like what they do and how they do it and I thought I’d help them.”
Ms McKnight has been running in Berwick across the hills in the lead up to the marathon on May 29.
She has arranged for her family and friends to be scattered around different points of the course in Williamstown to be her cheer squad.
“I’m a bit nervous but I’m absolutely up for doing it,” she said
“I’m certainly going to give it my best shot.”
The marathon starts at 7.15am at the Newport Athletics Track, in Newport.
Anyone who wants to donate to the cause can call Julie McKnight on 0407 080 702.
