SES clears fallen trees

By Lia Bichel
CASEY residents are urged to be cautious on the roads after a number of fallen trees have been reported in the area.
The Narre Warren SES have recently removed four fallen trees due to wind and rain.
Victoria State Emergency Service Narre Warren Unit’s Keith Grant said while fallen trees were not a common occurrence, it was one residents should be aware of.
“Whilst the wind hasn’t been all that strong, a number of the more mature trees are under severe stress due to years of drought conditions followed by the recent heavy rains over a very short timeframe,” he said.
Trees have fallen on Bermersyde Drive, Berwick, Heatherton Rd on-ramp to the Monash Freeway (east bound) at Endeavour Hills, on the corner of North Road and Westernport Highway, Langwarrin and in Terry St, Pearcedale.
Mr Grant said some people had tried to move fallen trees off the roads themselves, but he urged them to call their local SES to avoid any dangerous situations.
“Oncoming traffic could be a potential danger,” he said.
“SES has traffic management resources available, and sometimes police will attend the scene as well to control traffic.”
The national number for requesting SES assistance with flood and storm related damage is 132-500. For other life threatening emergencies requiring Police, Fire or Ambulance, call 000 (Triple Zero).
