A NARRE Warren man has to pay thousands of dollars in restitution for defrauding the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
Nathan Bartlett, 22, pleaded guilty in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court to defrauding the TAC of more than $13,000 in 14 months.
Bartlett contravened the Transport Accident Act 1986 by claiming loss of earnings benefits to which he was not entitled to.
He returned to work while receiving these benefits from TAC and did not inform TAC that he had returned to work.
Bartlett was sentenced without conviction and ordered to pay $13,877.26 in restitution and $300 for legal costs.
He was also ordered by the court to undertake a positive lifestyle program in conjunction with a 12-month good behaviour bond.
A TAC spokesperson said the organisation took fraud seriously and where there was evidence of misconduct, TAC would exercise its strong legislative powers to investigate and prosecute.
