Writing for the thrill of it

By Lia Bichel
MOVE over Dan Brown, there’s a new author in town.
Narre Warren South mother of three Sue Guillou recently released a new adventure and thriller book, The Mayan Priest.
The book published by Sid Harta fuses fact and fiction and has elements of mystery, romance and ancient history.
In the book, an Australian teacher and an American archaeologist fight time to save a group of trapped archaeologists in an ancient lift shaft and solve complex puzzles behind the Kinix – the Mayan priest – who has many remarkable secrets of his own.
“The book has what you would like to see in a book, but there is also some facts in there about the Mayan culture,” Ms Guillou said.
“I want people who read it to enjoy it, but also want them to feel like they have learned something after reading it.” Ms Guillou, 40, spent two years researching and writing the book, while juggling motherly duties and working as a full time insurance claims manager.
“I did a lot of research about the Mayan culture for the book because I wanted it to be real. I would work full time, come home, then sit down and work on the book after everyone was in bed.”
Ms Guillou said her children and husband were very supportive of her work and proud of her achievements. She is now working on her next book, The Ice Man. Visit www.sueguillou.com
