YOUNG people are encouraged to learn about various trades at an exhibition next month.
The City of Casey is supporting the South East Try a Trade exhibition, which is an initiative of the South East Local Learning and Employment Network (SELLEN) aimed to showcase a range of potential career paths for local young people.
Try a Trade 2011 will be run over two days and will feature a number of exhibitors from a range of industries, giving students the opportunity to not only view the available trades in the South East Region, but to gain firsthand experience and knowledge of the trades themselves.
City of Casey manager Economic Development David Wilkinson said the event was a great asset to the south east region.
“The City of Casey is very proud to support an initiative like Try a Trade as we continue to drive to create more local jobs for our young people,” he said.
Trades on display will include carpentry, plumbing, tiling, bricklaying, painting, hair and beauty, engineering and many others.
Try a Trade 2011 will be open to students in Year 9 and above within the south east region on Monday and Tuesday 16 and 17 May from 9.30am to 2.45pm.
An evening session will be held on Monday 16 May from 4.30pm to 6.30pm which will be open to the community.
This year’s event will take place at the Cranbourne Turf Club, Grant Street, Cranbourne.
