AFTER having family members die from cancer, Mary Hubeek is doing what she can to raise money for research.
The Narre Warren South resident will be holding a Biggest Morning Tea next week and said she invited residents from Casey and surrounds to attend.
Funds raised from Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea help the Cancer Council to continue work in cancer research, prevention, education and support services.
This is the second year Ms Hubeek, 46, will host the event and she hoped to double the amount she raised last year.
“It is a gold coin donation. I raised $100 last year and am hoping to raise $250 this year,” she said.
“It is something I can hopefully do every year, and hopefully it gets bigger and better.”
Ms Hubeek said she had helped with other fund-raisers in the past, but this is the only event she had hosted on her own. She has received a lot of support from people donating items for the raffle and hoped to have more support on the day.
“Anyone who wants to come is more than welcomed. I think just about everyone has been touched by cancer, or knows someone who has been touched by cancer,” she said.
“I don’t think there are too many people who haven’t been affected.”
Ms Hubeek will host the event on 18 May from 10am until 2pm at her house in Narre Warren South. Anyone wanting to attend her Biggest Morning Tea can contact her on 0412890136 to find out her address. For more information about Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au
