Canine carer has worries down pat

A FLUFFY puppy has been wandering the halls of Hillcrest Christian College.
Baileys, a five-month-old Groodle, has joined the Chaplaincy Program to help put smiles on students’ faces.
Hillcrest chaplain Eleanor Flavel said Baileys, known as ‘the sheep’ to many students, was being used for special counselling and had a positive impact on many of the students and staff.
“The aim of having Baileys working in schools is to bridge barriers with children who find it hard to interact socially, be a calming affect on anxious children and to provide comfort and physical touch to grieving children coping with loss,” Mrs Flavel said.
“She has already calmed down a traumatised child, provided comfort to children whose parents are separating or leaving and is a welcome joy to the staff who need a hug.”
Mrs Flavel said the pup was a welcomed addition to the school.
“She gets a great reception everywhere I go – everyone loves to stop and have a pat,” she said.
