Ellen’s last class

AFTER a 31-year teaching career, a beloved teacher at James Cook Primary School will bid farewell to students and fellow staff on Friday.
Ellen Hargreaves, who has taught at the Endeavour Hills school for about 25 years, said she thoroughly enjoyed her rewarding career.
“I have loved my job every day,” Mrs Hargreaves said.
“The children, parents, staff and school communities where I have worked over the years have always been very supportive of both my professional and personal life.
“I have gained some lasting friendships within the teaching profession and memorable times throughout my career.“
Mrs Hargreaves said she had seen many changes within the school and community during her time as a teacher including the implementation of flexible learning spaces, increased technology and the diversity of the students.
“We are a more multicultural community, embracing all cultures,” she said.
Students said Mrs Hargreaves would be missed at the school.
“Mrs Hargreaves has been the best teacher I’ve ever had because she is funny and nice,” student Alyssa said. “She always supported me when I needed it.“
Another student, Dejan, said Mrs Hargreaves “made school a fun place to be”, and student Tamara said Mrs Hargreaves told students funny stories and made sure that everyone was treated as special.
James Cook Primary School principal Kathy Sharp said she wished Mrs Hargreaves all the best in the future. “Mrs Hargreaves has always been a professional educator giving her best to students and staff, she will be missed and will always be remembered as a valued member of the education community,” Ms Sharp said. “We wish her all the best in her retirement and hope she visits us often.”
