NEW and improved waste-trucks will soon be hitting the streets in the City of Casey.
The trucks are state-of-the-art, fitted with tracking and collection technology, and the colour of the vehicle will match the bins they pick up.
The improvements are part of a new kerbside collection service contract which aims to ensure the continuation of quality waste collection services for all residents, City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes said.
“These trucks are a tangible representation of council’s commitment to achieving an environmentally sustainable Casey, protecting and enhancing the natural environment for future generations through the effective management and minimisation of the municipality’s waste,” Cr Balmes said.
City of Casey waste management manager Michael Jansen said the new waste contract, delivered through JJ Richards and Sons, provided opportunities to increase efficiency.
“A GPS tracking device in each truck gives the council real-time waste collection information so any issues of concern, or complaints from residents, can be followed up in a timely manner,” Mr Jansen said. “A camera is also fitted to the pick-up arm of each truck which will help the council to identify waste that may be jammed, or placed in the wrong bin.”
Each truck has a message aimed at reducing waste to landfill, and encourages composting and recycling within the home.
All green trucks are for general waste, with the message: Rethink your Waste, Reduce It.
Maroon trucks collect garden waste: Rethink your Waste, Compost It, and the blue, recycling trucks ask residents to: Rethink your Waste, Recycle It. To report the missed collection of bins call 1300 00 BINS or 1300 00 2467.
