Roving reporters

BUDDING writers and bloggers in Casey can apply for a new Roving Reporter program.
People aged between 16 and 25 can apply for the six-month youthcentral program, which will allow them to represent local community issues and successes while hearing from other passionate young people from around the state.
Receiving 90,000 visits per month, www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au is the most popular government website for young people.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich encouraged all passionate young people to sign up and be part of the website’s Roving Reporter team.
“There are many benefits to being part of the team – articles are paid for and there is training in writing for the web,” Ms Peulich said.
“It’s also a great opportunity to develop an online writing portfolio and experience the world of professional journalism first-hand.
“Other benefits include developing skills in communication and research, as well as having the opportunity to attend launches, expos, festivals and concerts.”
Past roving reporters said joining the team was a great way to develop their professional writing skills and provided them with an opportunity to build up a writing portfolio, score the occasional free movie, CD or book, as well as meet their heroes and be inspired by other people’s stories.
Applications for the Roving Reporter program are open until 14 September 2011. Forms and position details can be found at www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/join
