Cheer girls raise a storm

By Danielle Galvin
DANCERS from the Narre Warren Backstage Dance Academy cheered the Melbourne Storm rugby league players all the way to victory on Sunday at the NRL quarter final at AAMI Park.
Sixteen of the girls from the dance school performed a hip hop routine as part of the pre-game entertainment.
The talented youngsters were lucky enough to stay and watch the Melbourne Storm thrash the Newcastle Knights in the quarter final decider.
“This type of experience is so valuable to students, especially to those who are looking at a career in performing,” Jess Solomon, principal of the dance school said.
The Narre Warren dancers were one of the groups asked to perform at the game.
Ms Solomon is a cheerleader with the Melbourne Storm.
“It was a great opportunity for the students to also see their teacher perform.”
The girls have been rehearsing for the performance and were excited to have an audience of nearly 20,000 people.
“We arrived at 12pm to meet the choreographer and to rehearse for three hours at Olympic Park.”
The routine went for four minutes, and the girls were thrilled that part of the performance was aired live on Channel 9.
“The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have been invited to perform again in a fortnight at the next final in Melbourne,” Ms Solomon said.
