THE Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre Gymnastic Club is looking for people of all abilities to jump, tumble and just have fun as part of its mainstream program.
Casey Access for All Abilities Program is supporting the club with the continued inclusion of people with disability into their mainstream program.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Shar Balmes said gymnastics was a great activity for people with disability to get involved in as the activity is proven to increase balance, strength, self-esteem and confidence.
Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre Gymnastics Club Head Coach Samantha Lowe said the club encouraged more people to join.
“We are currently working with the City of Casey Access for All Abilities Program and looking to work with specialist schools and disability day services to develop a gymnastics program specifically for people with disability,” Ms Lowe said.
Local resident Natalie Vann Damme, 18, has participated in gymnastics since she was three years old and receives personalised coaching while participating with the mainstream group at Endeavour Hills.
Last year she competed in the Special Olympics and placed fifth for her artistic gymnastic routine.
“I love being part of the Endeavour Hills gymnastics team because it’s a fun way to keep fit and I have made friends with many of the coaches and some of the older team members,” she said.
The City of Casey supports the Access All Abilities Program, funded by the Department of Planning and Community Development, which is continually looking to generate inclusive sporting and leisure opportunities. Some other sporting opportunities that the Access for All Abilities program supports include tennis, cricket, lawn bowls football, cricket, soccer and swimming.
Gymnastics classes run in the afternoons from Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings.
