TWO schools were in lockdown following a 20-minute pursuit through the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire yesterday (Wednesday).
Cardinia Police attempted to intercept the car about 10am sparking a pursuit through Pakenham, Berwick, Narre Warren and Hampton Park.
Spokesperson from the Education Department Vanessa O’Shaughnessy said Hampton Park Secondary College and River Gum Primary School in Hampton Park were in lockdown for about 10 minutes during the pursuit.
“The schools were advised to lock their doors and keep students in the building about 11am until about 11.10am,” Ms O’Shaughnessy said.
“Police advise schools to lock their doors for the emergency situations and these schools followed police instruction.”
A Victoria Police spokesperson said after about a 20-minute chase, the occupants dumped the car and fled on foot. A short time later, police apprehended the occupants, four males and one female, and they were taken to the Narre Warren Police Station to be interviewed.
Hampton Park resident Michele Halsall said she saw a police helicopter flying over Hampton Park for 15 minutes about 10.45am.
Another witness, who did not want to be named, said they saw nine police cars driving fast on Hallam Road towards Lynbrook.
The Victoria Police spokesperson said they could not comment on the age of the occupants or the speeds the cars reached during the pursuit.
The five occupants were being interviewed by police at the time the News went to print.
