IT’S a long way to the top for Berwick’s Jenelle Smith.
She’ll be participating in the Eureka Tower Climb on Sunday 13 November.
There are 1642 steps to the top of Australia’s tallest building, and it’s the third time the Beaconsfield hairdresser has competed in the climb.
“My sister Kellie first suggested to me to participate in the Eureka climb three years ago,” she said.
Since then, Jenelle has managed to get some of her clients on board to participate in the event.
“I looked into it and gave it a go because it is something different to the fun runs that are held throughout the year, but still can be a health and fitness goal,” she said.
The Eureka Tower Climb is one of the highest vertical races in the world, and participants can run or walk the steps to the top.
Famous faces are set to compete this year.
The Tower Climb’s ambassador is Michael Klim, and the race attracts runners and sporting stars from around the country.
Participants are raising money for disadvantaged young people through Whitelion and Interplast.
“It’s an iconic building in Melbourne and a challenge that you can raise money for charities. My client Kerry has been great support and is involved with Interplast who are a charity that provide surgical and allied health services for developing countries in the Asia pacific region,” Jenelle said.
This year, Jenelle has been training for the event and the 29-year-old is hoping the climb will help her stay fit for summer.
“My client Kylie and I have been training for a couple of months now, attending the 1000 steps in Ferntree Gully most weekends and mixing it up with some fun runs as well.”
Jenelle is participating in an individual climber.
