IT WAS another mixed day for the Hampton Park Bowls Club on Saturday, with one great home win mixed in with two hard-fought away losses. Bowls weather was back, and it was great to feel the sun on the back once again.
Let’s start with the highlight of the day on the home patch.
Division 5 hosted the Dandenong Club and bowled their way to a massive victory, winning by 43 shots and picking up 16 points. Tracy Storm, Jeff Crozier, Geoff Ampt and skip Denise Eastick led the way and had a dream game to win by 32 shots. Russell Stannard, Jim Westwell, Rob Woff and skip Bob Naismith pulled away at the end to win by seven shots. Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert, Paul Barna and skip Peter Hayden faltered at the finish to go down by six shots while Vince Kovacic, Richard Pallett, Stan Hatch and skip Larry Simpson played well all day to win by 10 shots.
Division 3 playing at Cheltenham kept the opposition guessing to the very last ends, with the Parkers going down by 11 shots. Rico Storm, Ellen Smith, Sean McDonald and skip Mark Paton fought back to go down by five shots. Rayden Storm, Christine Hendrie, Geoff Ladner and skip Warwick Hardy cut their 10-shot deficient down to just three shots. Keith Reid, Heather Naismith, Ian Bartlett and skip Neville Hendrie missed by just two shots. Ken Cobden, Andrew Brandolin, Zac Storm and skip Graham Slight went down by a meagre one shot.
Division 7 played at Narre Warren and even though they won on three rinks, they still lost the overall by one shot. Liam Hemmingway, Rudy Oost, Brian Diaper and skip Ray Wood finished strongly, winning by four shots. Alex Williams, Gerry Cox, Ray Leggett and skip Fred McBrian stole the win on the last end to win by one shot. Les Unwin, Ian Kitt, Keith Damon and skip Allan Unwin finished with a handy seven-shot win while Len Bell, Bill Webb, Gail Wilcock and skip Alan Wilcock lost 20 shots in six ends to go down by 13 shots.
No Tuesday Pennant because of the Melbourne Cup.
