Mixed bowl of results at Cranbourne

A BEAUTIFUL sunny day greeted Cranbourne bowlers on Saturday, and results were split down the middle…glass half full, glass half empty…as three of the six teams had wins on the day.
The top side travelled to the Mount Waverley Bowling Club, where they played on a holding tiff green in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.
Skip Lyn Quigg was once again in red-hot form, and played magnificently to maintain a big lead on his rink all day.
Chris Fox’s rink also got the jump on their opponents and managed to keep in front, despite dropping a number of shots at the end of the game.
Ray Travica’s rink of Corbin Barrenger, Peter Hodgson and Barry Thomas played well and were able to hold onto a slim lead in an exciting finish. Peter Elgar’s rink recovered well from a bad start, but was unable to take the points due to some brilliant bowling by the Mount Waverley skip.
The 16-point win placed the Cranny side in third spot on the Division One ladder.
The second side were outplayed at home losing to a strong Vermont South (2) side. Gary Hunt’s rink managed to snatch a one-point draw, but it was a very disappointing result for the team after their big win the previous week.
In an unusual twist of fate, the Cranbourne third side found themselves playing next door to the top side on the Mount Waverley greens.
The rinks skipped by John Mulder and Tony Whalley recorded big wins, and the side managed 17 points with three rink wins plus a draw.
The fourth side hosted Mentone (3) and were able to win the game despite only winning on one rink. Don O’Neill’s rink of Stan Myers, John Kenter and Marie Taylor won by a huge 27 shots to steer the side to victory, while Rod Mills’ rink managed a draw.
The Cranny fifth and sixth sides both lost to the Dandenong City top side and the South Oakleigh Club second side respectively.
