AFTER two wash-outs, the sun was finally shining on the Narre Warren Little Athletics Club on Saturday morning as a 20-year-old club record was smashed in the Boys Under 13s 1500 metres.
Chris Fenton enjoyed the sun on his back as he strode out for almost four laps in a time of 5:09.11 taking nearly five seconds off the old mark of 5:14.01 set in December 1991.
The track resurfacing, which took place at the beginning of last season, is finally paying off at the Dandenong Little Athletics Centre.
Fenton’s performance proved that conditions are fantastic to help athletes perform at their best.
This week’s program included sprinting events, long distance events, hurdles, throwing events, high jump, triple jump and long jump and the athletes were raring to go, full of energy and enthusiasm with many of them reaching standards for the first time this season.
The club ran a successful barbecue fundraiser on the day.
This Saturday is the first Pentathlon program for the season.
All athletes will score points for each of the five events on the program.
To gain maximum points athletes must compete in all five events on the day.
All parents are reminded to sign on early for their duty responsibilities on Saturday morning to ensure a prompt start to the morning’s program.
Club training is on Thursday evening from 5pm to 6pm at Max Pawsey Reserve, Fountain Drive, Narre Warren, and new members are always welcomed.
