CASEY Council has called on local community groups in Doveton to throw their hats in the ring to host an Australia Day event next year.
Council wants to hear from groups that would be interested in hosting a community event catering for at least 500 people on 26 January next year, in either Doveton or its neighbouring suburbs including Endeavour Hills.
“Each year there are many great Australia Day events, hosted by local groups and supported by the council, held across the municipality where local residents can join in the festivities, ignite their national pride and celebrate what makes our country such a wonderful place to live,” Casey mayor Mick Morland said.
“There is an opportunity in 2016 for a group to deliver an event for the Doveton and surrounding communities. The event must be of cultural significance, free, open to all residents of Casey and able to cater for attendance numbers of a minimum of 500 people.
“The council works to ensure residents have the opportunity to attend great community events close to home and we look forward to hearing from enthusiastic groups interested in delivering one on Australia Day.”
Expressions of interest close at 10am on Monday 7 September.
The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the event, with support from the City of Casey.
