Local TAFE students recognised

A number of the successful students were from Chisholm''s Berwick campus.

The Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Association (HBIA) held its annual Student, Apprentice and Educator Awards on 19 November, where 21 Chisholm students were nominated for industry awards.

A number of the successful students were from Chisholm’s Berwick campus.

Emma Long was the Diploma Beauty Therapy winner and Stephanie Freeman won the Diploma of Beauty Therapy Encouragement Award.

Harley James was the Cert III Barbering (Apprenticeship) winner. Mr James works at Barber Town Men’s Grooming in Endeavour Hills.

Jarvis Harp-Wilks was the Cert III Barbering (Apprenticeship) stage two winner. Mr Harp-Wilks works at New York Barbers in Berwick.

The HBIA annual awards are designed to reward and celebrate students and educators who show a high level of skill and enthusiasm for the industry they are involved in.

Doubling its haul of five awards in 2017, Chisholm students took home 10 awards across all categories of make-up, beauty, hairdressing and barbering.

General Manager Services and Creative Industries Vicki Tuchtan said, “I am so proud of the work of our students, many who have had to overcome major challenges to undertake their studies.

“To have their efforts recognised by their industry peers is pure joy, and a true testament to their passion and determination.

“Our educators also need to be recognised for their commitment, professionalism and high calibre of training they deliver, inspiring their students to chase their calling.”
