Berwick Show Society is inviting people to make a beanie to donate to the Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign.

The Berwick Show Society is aiming to make many as they can before May.

All beanies will be on display at the Victorian Agricultural Show Society convention in June.

“Cancer affects all of us. I can imagine that if I had a bald head it would be so comforting wearing one of the homemade beanies someone had knitted with love,” Berwick Show secretary Margaret Boon said.

“We really want as many people as possible to get involved. We have two beanies so far.

“You don’t even have to knit it, it just has to be any sort of handmade beanie.”

Berwick Show vice president Paul Hamilton knit one of the beanies that will be on display in the craft pavilion at the Berwick Show.

Having never knit before, Mr Hamilton was determined to help those in need.

For more information on the campaign call Margaret Boon on 0407 866 049.

The Berwick Show craft pavilion is a must-see this weekend, with displays of knitting, crochet, embroidery, cake decorating and more.

Pakenham’s Pat Jones was crowned first place for the Carrot Cake Competition on Thursday.

“I’m very excited about it. I enter every year and I have won it four or five times at this show,” she said.

“You just need to follow the recipe they give you. It’s all about trial and error, and really, just luck.

“There were 10 entries in the Carrot Cake Competition so I didn’t expect to win at all.”

The talented woman appeared in the Channel 9 cooking show ‘The Living Room’ this time last year.

Ms Jones also received first prize for two of her calligraphies, she received ‘best exhibit’ for a toy bear she crafted and for the marshmallows she baked.

She has been exhibiting since 1986.

“It’s just a hobby of mine and it’s still fun,” she added.

“I would love to encourage more people to get into craft, especially the young ones.

“Come and ask questions, come and see what it takes to enter an exhibit. Volunteering would also be a good way to learn too.”

The Berwick Show will run across two days, from 9.30am until 9pm on Saturday 23 February and from 9.30am until 4pm on Sunday 24 February.
