Catholic schools benefit from further education

Diocese of Sale graduates of the Master of Clinical Teaching.

Eleven teachers from Catholic schools in Berwick and Narre Warren are among the first-ever graduates of a trail-blazing Masters degree at the University of Melbourne.

The Master of Clinical Teaching is designed for high-achieving teachers dedicated to advancing their education practice.

Melbourne’s program is the only one of its kind in Australia, and draws on cutting-edge research to help educators tailor their approach and achieve the best possible learning outcomes for each student.

Local graduates from the innovative course include teachers from St Michael’s Primary School and St Catherine’s Primary School in Berwick, Mary MacKillop Primary School in Narre Warren North and Trinity Primary School in Narre Warren South.

Rebecca Keating, a classroom teacher at St Catherine’s Primary School, Berwick, said that the program helped her to implement an evidence-based approach to teaching that will improve the life chances of her students.

“The Master of Clinical Teaching has been very beneficial to my everyday classroom teaching.”Teaching is continually evolving and the course gave me the opportunity to update my knowledge on current trends and research, and what strategies give the best results,” she said.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale which encompasses Berwick and Narre Warren, Maria Kirkwood, congratulated the graduates and said that their expertise will have a positive impact on local schools.

“The outcomes we’re seeing from the Masters program are very encouraging, and I am pleased that another large cohort of teachers from schools in the Catholic Diocese of Sale are currently progressing through the course,” she said.
