A record number of more than 500 residents rolled up their sleeves to show their support for National Tree Day on Sunday 29 July.

They gathered at Bayview Park in Narre Warren for an annual tree planting activity at the old tip site as part of Casey Council’s Growing a Green Web program which has been running for over 20 years.

The day was a chance for the community to plant more than 10,000 Indigenous plants and take part in a free celebratory lunch.

The council aims to create a beautiful nature play area by re-vegetation of the former landfill site which has also been transformed into a 1001 steps tourist attraction.
