Narre Warren’s Foundation Learning Centre has united to celebrate its rich culture as part of City of Casey’s Ageing Positively Festival.

Members of the community as well as English and additional language students at the centre gathered to enjoy an afternoon of interesting conversation, multicultural games, dancing, music and fabulous food for the centre’s Cultures in Unison event on Thursday 10 October.

“This event was so much fun and so important for our centre and community,” literacy coordinator Clea Nicol said.

“People of different cultures and ages who may not otherwise have the opportunity to meet enjoyed participating in activities together in a relaxed atmosphere,” she said, adding “life experience is an education in itself”.

“The participants were very interested to find out about each other’s cultural backgrounds – Afghanistan, India , the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Germany, Pakistan and Australia were all represented,” Ms Nicol added.

The group also played marbles and hit the piñata with “a lot of gusto.” The Afghani and Pakistani students also brought their cultural food to share.

The Foundation Learning Centre’s Share and care group meet every Thursday morning and enjoy a variety of activities including crafts and off-site outings. A variety of English language classes are also offered.
