Shear delight

Rotary District 9820 governor, Mark Humphries, displays Funno’s prized man bun.

Just under 100 Rotarians and guests attended a vocational visit to Alameda Homestead Nursery on Wednesday 31 March.

In addition to a tour of the nursery to learn about plant propagation and the range of clematis’ that are available, the participants were treated to a roast dinner and desserts.

A highlight of the evening was the shearing of Rotarian Adrian Funston’s (Funno’s) man bun to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Funno had been cultivating his man bun since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020.

Despite ongoing ribbing about his new hair style in the ensuing months, he persisted and decided to put his efforts to good use.

He succeeded in raising just over $2000 in donations from Rotarians and friends in support of the Leukaemia Foundation and selected the vocational visit to the nursery to publicly remove his cultivated locks.

Rotary District 9820’s governor Mark Humphries was on hand to do the honours and began by using wool shears to do the deed.

Much to everyone’s amusement – except Funno’s – this attempt failed, and sharper scissors were required to remove the locks.

Funno booked an appointment with the hairdresser the following day, to finish the job.
