Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have released an image of a man following a fatal hit-run collision in Hampton Park this morning.

The release of the image follows the collision at the intersection of Hallam and Pound roads where it is believed a cyclist was struck by a car on Thursday, 6 January about 4.14am.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and left in what police believe was a red 2010 Holden Cruze sedan.

Sadly, the cyclist, a 58-year-old Hampton Park man, died at the scene.

Enquiries by detectives have revealed the vehicle was stolen from Doncaster on the morning of Wednesday 5 January.

A secondary crime scene has been processed this morning after the stolen vehicle was found burnt out in Glen Waverley at about 5am.

Detectives have released the image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
