Police hunt ‘dangerous’ armed man

Police are urging the public to stay away from an area in Narre Warren North, following claims an armed man is on the loose in the area.

Residents have reported a strong police presence in the area surrounding Drysdale Avenue.

Heavily armed police, including what appears to be Special Operations Group officers bearing rifles, have reportedly been observed.

In a statement, police urged the public to stay away from the area surrounding Troups Creek Retarding Basin.

They confirmed a search is underway for a man armed with an edged weapon who is believed to be dangerous.

It comes after a 70-year-old man and 57-year old woman were attacked on Drysdale Avenue while out for a morning walk on 2 October.

It is believed a man approached and slashed the pair with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing on foot.

The elderly man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone who sights the offender or has any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. If in need of urgent police assistance dial 000.
