Kiara makes art of giving

THOMAS Mitchell Primary School student Kiara Adams has been announced as one of two state winners in the inaugural ‘art of giving’ competition run by Kmart.
The 10-year-old is now in the running to win the national competition, score $10,000 for her Endeavour Hills school and have her artwork used on signage and in catalogues to promote this year’s Kmart wishing tree appeal.
Kiara won $2500 for her school and an Apple iPod nano for herself after being crowned a state winner in the Years 5 to 7 category of the ‘art of giving’ competition.
She submitted her art work entitled, “To give is better than to receive”.
More than 2100 entries were received from primary school students across the country, giving them a creative way to think about what it means to give.
Kiara’s art teacher Rosa Spizzirri said she was thrilled with the recognition that her student received in the competition.
“We incorporated the competition’s theme of the spirit of giving into the course curriculum in order to teach the children the importance of giving and helping people in need,’ Ms Spizzirri said.
The 2009 Kmart wishing tree appeal will start on 12 November and aims to raise more than 400,000 gifts for families in need.
