Chef helps with food service

FIREFIGHTERS and members from the SES took part in a two-week food handling course with members from the Rotary Club of Narre Warren.
Phillip McMillan of Culinary Solutions, who is also a member at the club, ran the course on 11 and 18 August during the club’s meetings at the Fountain Gate Hotel.
Mr McMillan, a chef who has worked in some of Melbourne’s top restaurants, ran the sessions as a service to the club and at no cost to anyone.
Rotarian Lyn Pickering said some of the things they learnt during the course included correct food handling and preparation, the causes of food contamination and personal hygiene.
Mrs Pickering said she expected everyone who took part would receive a certificate in food handling. “Phil deserves our very special thanks for his time and effort to prepare this course for our Rotary Club and to include other relevant local community groups in the training,” she said.
Mrs Pickering said it was important that the club had many of its members trained in food handling and safety.
“We have been involved in preparing sausages for the Narre Warren North Carols by Candlelight at Christmas for over 20 years, and are occasionally asked to run a sizzle for City of Casey and other groups.”
