Call for responders

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THIS time the Narre Warren North CFA is putting the call out.
The volunteer fire brigade is calling for new members to join the fray as it looks to boost its numbers in an effort to better protect the community from bushfires, house fires and car accidents.
“We are on call 24/7 so we need a large membership to guarantee a number of us are available at any given time of the day or night,” Lieutenant Linden Barry said.
“We are particularly interested in new members who may be available during the day and also people who currently hold a truck licence.
“Full training is supplied and we anticipate the new members will be through their training and responding as operational members by Christmas time.”
Membership is open to men and women over 18 years of age, with residents who live locally and who are able to respond from Monday to Friday being preferred.
“However, we are keen to meet any residents regardless of their hours of employment who would like to contribute back into their community in an operational emergency responder role, are available most Tuesday nights for training, and one in four Sunday mornings for a duty roster,” Mr Barry said.
“Training and uniforms are provided, you just need to commit the time and energy.”
Interviews for new members are currently underway, with successful candidates to start their training immediately each Tuesday night.
“This is a “get your hands dirty” role, and we are looking for local residents to join us in responding to emergencies,” Mr Barry said.
Membership to the CFA is subject to a police check, personal health declaration and final acceptance by the brigade and the CFA.
Interested people should email their expressions of interest including a contact phone number to Linden Barry at linden.barry@members.cfa.vic.gov.au, or call 0411 591 484 for more information.
