Gym blaze ‘intense’

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

PHOTOS taken at the scene of a suspicious fire at a gym in Berwick this week have been released.
Fire crews from Berwick, Dandenong, Hallam and Bayswater attended the blaze at Funtastic Gymnastics on Enterprise Avenue, about 8.30pm on 2 February, after flames were seen.
CFA District 8 acting operations officer Andrew Turner said the fire gutted two small factories.
Minor damage was also caused to adjoining buildings.
“The fuel loads inside the building like foam mattresses caused a lot of heat and thick black smoke to issue from the building,” Mr Turner said.
“It was an intense, confined space fire.”
The investigation is ongoing.
