Hips sway for a cause

By Lia Bichel
LOCAL residents are invited to shake their hips, get fit and raise money for a good cause.
Aerobics instructor Carmen Lisson will be holding a two- hour Zumbathon on 2 April to raise money for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
The Berwick resident said it was the recent Relay for Life that prompted her to run a giant dance class for the cause.
“It was great to see thousands of people from the south eastern suburbs come together at Relay for Life to raise money for cancer,” Ms Lisson said.
“Everyone is affected by cancer. I have lost several family members and friends from it. I know a lot of people who have endured it. Everyone can benefit from a cure for cancer,” Ms Lisson said.
Ms Lisson has been teaching aerobics for 13 years and Zumba for 12 months at three locations in the City of Casey. She said the Latin dance exercise craze has attracted both men and women, from age 10 to their late 60s.
“It’s a great way for people to lose weight without feeling like it is hard work,” she said.
“It’s like a big party and everyone has a lot of fun.”
The Zumbathon will run from 9.30am until 11.30am at the Don Bosco Primary School on 2 April.
Participants do not have to dance for the entire two hours, and can watch or take a time-out on the gym bleachers.
The cost is $20 for adults if you sign up before the event, or $25 on the day.
Anyone wanting to book their spot or want more information can contact Ms Lisson on 0432 543 347 or visit her website on www.carmengetfit.com.au.
