Duplication gathers momentum

HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition calling on funds for the duplication of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
The petition, tabled in Parliament last week, had 945 signatures of people who were hopeful that funds would be provided in the 2011 State Budget to duplicate of the Narre Warren Cranbourne Road between Pound and Thompsons roads.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the significant response to the petition demonstrated that locals really want Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to be upgraded.
“My petition already has 945 signatures, with more continuing to be sent to my office by concerned local residents,” Ms Graley said.
“The residents who signed my petition are those same people who use Narre Warren Cranbourne Road on a daily basis and are fed up with being stuck in traffic jams.
“I was at Casey Central Shopping Centre last Saturday where I met many local residents who want to see more lanes on Narre Warren Cranbourne Road.”
“Narre Warren Cranbourne Road must be upgraded so that local residents spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their families.”
Berwick-Cranbourne News Facebook friends have spoken out about their desire to see the busy road duplicated.
Stuart Coutts said, “it should have been done years ago.”
Ian Anderson said the duplication was well-overdue.
“There have been many deaths on it over the years and the parts that are still single lane are death traps. The number of accidents that occur between Pound Road and Thompsons roads are ridiculous. Some (accidents) are serious and others are minor that cause a heap of traffic congestion.”
