STUDENTS from Strathaird Primary School had a special visitor with a healthy eating lesson last month.
Aussi Apple and the southern Victoria apple growers visited a number of schools across the state, including the Narre Warren South school, to promote healthy eating to young people.
This was the 10th year that the popular program, sponsored by Fruit Growers Victoria, visited children in primary schools in urban and regional centres.
Aussie Apple presented students with a slinky machine which allows them to make their own apple slinkys for a fun and tasty morning snack.
Students also received a show bag of goodies including a colourful storybook about how Aussi Apple grew from a little blossom into a juicy red apple.
Helene Armour, co-ordinator of the program, said Victorian apple growers see their program as being two fold.
“While helping to promote our product, we believe that we are doing something towards enforcing a healthy eating message among young children,” she said.
“This can only result in healthier and happier children.”
