Grants to make seniors tech savvy

APPLICATIONS are almost closed for the Telstra Connected Seniors® workshop grant that is aimed at helping older Australians use technology.
Local community groups have until 7 May to apply for grants of up to $5000 while state and territory organisations can receive up to $50,000.
Acting Telstra Country Wide Area general manager for Melbourne Metro South East Paul Harrison said technology such as mobile phones and computers played an important role in connecting people of all ages.
He said Telstra Connected Seniors workshops bring people of different knowledge together to improve their technology skills.
Mr Harrison said the hands-on sessions were designed to teach people how to use a mobile phone, send a text or picture message, make a call or use the internet to stay in touch with families and friends, or pay bills and shop online.
Not-for-profit community organisations with a primary member base of people age over 60 are eligible to apply for a Telstra Connected Seniors Grant until 7 May by visiting www.telstraseniors.com.au.
Organisations that have previously received grants and successfully completed their training can reapply for further Telstra Connected Seniors funding.
