Floyd un-Loch’s the secret on a freezing cold day for bowls

It was a day when only the bravest of members from the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group took to the rink with 26 players turning up at Loch and District Bowls Club for the weekly challenge.

Winter certainly descended on Melbourne over the past week and Thursday morning wasn’t the odd day out.

Many of the family of bowlers took a look outside today and decided to either go back to bed, or to rug up with the heater going…and I don’t blame them!

But, as cold and windy as it was, the rain stayed away and the players had a fun day out and enjoyed some great company.

The group was welcomed aboard by Bev and John as Vern arranged the teams for the day.

The group’s good friend Trevor prepared the green for with some help from Alec and Paul.

The young ladies from Loch looked after the kitchen and kept the players warm with hot drinks, thank you to both Sue and Robyn for that.

Out on the green the group froze, but still had plenty of fun.

How could we not with such good friends?

Anyway, as always there can only be one winning team, and today’s winners on a countback with a score of 34 were Laurie Bell (3), Terry Floyd (S) and Lou Capsalis (L).

Runners up also on a score of 34 were John Nicholson (S), Tony Heppleston (L) and Luke Monckton (3).

Best One Game winners on a score of 18 were Vern Elliott (S), Alex Martin (L) and Trevor Loughridge (3).

I take this opportunity to once again thank all the wonderful volunteers who keep our Thursday challenge going from week to week; without them we couldn’t keep going.

This week we will be meeting at Corinella to once again fight it out for team of the week.

Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.

Unfortunately, with numbers generally reaching our capacity, we will have to be strict on a 10am cut-off time.

Meanwhile, until then, have fun and stay safe.
