Berwick rolls sleeves up for draw

By Gavin Staindl
THEY may be decked out in red tops, but Berwick City was all blue collar on Friday night against Kingston City.
Up against the former Victorian Premier League side, Berwick resorted to a workmanlike approach to secure a 2-2 home draw against the silky skills of Kingston.
A glancing header from Simon O’Donnell levelled the scores at 1-1, and within 30 minutes Berwick’s newest recruit had given City a 2-1 lead after Karl Cochrane and James Ashby put their bodies on the line to keep the ball alive in the box.
Stuart Mackie did his best to retain the one-goal lead, sacrificing himself by taking the brunt of opposing shots, but there was little he could do when Kingston was awarded, and duly converted, a penalty 10 minutes from full time.
FELLOW Division Three side Doveton had a day to forget, going down to Mornington 4-1 at Dallas Brooks Park.
In Division Two, the Casey Comets sent the crowd at Comets Stadium into a frenzy when they scored two goals in the last 10 minutes to snatch a 3-1 victory.
Brendan Elmazovski and Liam Ryan scored minutes from injury time as the Comets strung together consecutive wins for the first time since April.
