Special prize for best Christmas lights in Berwick, says Cr Scott Dowling

Some of the main streets in Berwick will sparkle with festive lights and decorations these Holidays as the community is invited to come together to celebrate the joy of the season.

From 17 November, local shopfronts and residents are invited to take part in the celebration of community spirit, family and collective joy.

Cr Dowling said the initiative, “celebrates the festive season where family, giving, sharing, and kindness can be exchanged with a smile and a sense of joy.”

“High Street traders are encouraged to decorate their windows in true Christmas spirit, and residents across Berwick are invited to light up their homes to spread festive cheer throughout the town,” he said.

To make things even more exciting and in the spirit of friendly competition, there will be a special prize for the best-decorated shopfront and home.

Lina, shop owner of a Little Black Bag on High street, says that she’s excited to finally see the street transform ahead of the magical season — and so are her regulars.

“Many customers have been waiting for the area to become festive again,” she said.

The retail store will be participating in the Christmas decorating as well as hosting a “sip and shop” on 5 of December for those who want to enjoy the lights.

While Lina says she’s excited to see the festive decorations, she also says it helps with motivating the spirits of retailers as the Christmas season usually brings in more traffic.

And with the help of the decorations this year, she hopes it encourages more people to get in the shopping spirit.
