CASEY residents are encouraged to celebrate Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week.
NAIDOC week, which began on 3 July and concludes on 10 July, celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture, and this year’s national theme is Change: The Next Step is Ours.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes said the special week was an opportunity to celebrate, learn about and connect with Australia’s Indigenous culture.
“As a community, we are strengthened by the inclusion and recognition of Indigenous culture and achievement,” Cr Balmes said.
Doveton and Cranbourne Koori youth groups will be celebrating NAIDOC week by attending a community leadership camp in Halls Gap which is supported by the Casey Council.
The Inter Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee has also invited aboriginal students from Casey to participate in an Aboriginal Connection to Country Forum.
