The City of Casey has negotiated an agreement with Monash Health to improve access to parking in the busy Casey Complex precinct.
The opening of the Cranbourne Community Hospital in October has been a vital boost for local health services, but it’s also put extra pressure on parking around the Casey Complex, which is home to Casey Stadium, Casey RACE and other community facilities.
Council was advised of the hospital’s opening date and parking plans late in the process, which meant limited time to prepare for the increased demand. Since then, Council has been working to find solutions that keep the precinct accessible for everyone.
Council has now entered into a formal agreement with Monash Health to help manage overflow parking and reduce pressure on nearby streets.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said Council’s goal is to create fair and safe parking for all those using the precinct.
Under this agreement, Monash Health has committed to:
No paid staff parking: Council advocated against paid staff parking, as it could push staff into surrounding free parking areas and make things harder for the community. Monash Health has confirmed there will be no paid staff parking. If Monash Health decides to introduce paid parking in the future, they will consult with Council before making any changes. This will allow Council to keep the community and facility users informed well in advance of any changes to parking arrangements.
Public access to Monash Health’s staff car park during off-peak times: Around 120 spaces will be available free of charge from Monday to Saturday, 5:00pm to 5:00am, and all day on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Ongoing collaboration on future parking needs: As the hospital grows, Monash Health will share analysis and consult with council on solutions.
Parking restrictions
Council has also introduced new parking restrictions in the precinct since October to help manage demand and keep spaces turning over:
135 spaces remain unrestricted near Casey Stadium.
200 plus spaces now have 2P or 3P restrictions, Monday to Saturday, 6:00am to 6:00pm.
No restrictions apply on Sundays.
Council had provided a grace period before enforcement began. Full enforcement started on 24 November, with Council Officers prioritising education, but infringements will apply for unsafe or obstructive parking, such as blocking driveways or parking on nature strips.
