A very close battle took place when 53 members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group descended on Lang Lang Bowls Club for the weekly challenge.
In a rare occurrence, five teams won two games each for the day setting up a very tight finish on the scoreboard.
The large gathering was welcomed to Lang Lang by group President John Nicholson while Bev and Vern Elliott organised the teams for the day.
The weekly challenge began on a warm and humid summers day, but nothing like the extreme heat from two days earlier.
While the quality of bowling was high, as usual a few wrong-bias bowls resulted in a healthy donation to the Royal Children’s Hospital tin.
After some great battles on the green, the winners on a score of 35 were Lindsay Stevenson (2), Marianne Scales (L), Peter McWilliams (3) and Louis Magri (S).
Runners up on a countback, also on a score of 35, were Steve Muhi (3), Steve Edge (S), Derek Fenn (2) and Sue Buchan (L).
Best One game winner was also decided on a countback with Bev Elliott (3), Aggie Grattan (2), Tony Morris (L) and Rob Paganoni (S) getting the prize with a score of 18.
The group would like to give a big thank you to Lang Lang President Neville Kitchen for setting up the green.
Also, thanks to Marianne and Colin Scales for manning the bar and to Laurie Bell for looking after the kitchen and cleaning up afterwards.
This week, Thursday 5 February, the group will be meeting at Loch and District Bowls Club to once again enjoy a great day of social bowls.
Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.
With 53 bowlers attending this week and a capacity of only 56 we will have to be strict on a 10am cut-off time.
