Several universities across the state celebrated new and returning students this past week with their orientation festivities — including Berwick’s very own, Federation University.
In commemoration of welcoming new and returning academics, on Wednesday 4 March, Berwick students stepped into a nostalgic and retro period of time, with the semester kicking off with ‘Flashback Fever Festival’.
With live music, food trucks, arcade games and roving performers on hand, students were able to commence their tertiary education, 80’s style.
The festival followed an array of orientation events where new students of the university had the opportunity to connect with peers, receive course overviews, tour campus and attend skills workshops and panel discussions.
This year’s most popular course at the institute includes a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) and the Bachelor of Information Technology.
Across Federation University’s three campuses, more than 4200 new students joined 7000 returning colleagues.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley, said the festival was a chance for students to connect and fall into the routine of university life.
“There is nothing quite like the beginning of semester, whether stepping onto campus for the first time, or returning to studies, there is a whole community ready to help each student succeed in 2026,” Professor Bentley said.
“This year, students will see even more opportunities to connect what they learn in class with real industry experience through our Co-operative Education Model where they can build the skills and confidence to move towards their career goals with momentum.”
