DAMIEN Miskulin’s magic right boot couldn’t be stopped in Canberra last month.
Miskulin, 15, from Narre Warren, was a member of the Football Federation Victoria (FFV) National Training Centre (NTC) team which participated in the NTC Institute Challenge in Canberra in December. He was named in the All-Star team for the tournament after kicking seven goals to win the golden boot award for the tournament.
Miskulin was also identified to take part in a training camp from which the squad for the next Australian Joeys under-17 team will be selected.
Miskulin said the tournament was physically demanding, but Victoria played well throughout.
“It was pretty hard,” Miskulin said. “With 25 minute halves it’s a lot harder to score. Overall we did pretty well and we just lost to West Australia and New South Wales and drew with the Northern Territory. We finished third, only one point off top spot.”
His highlight match was against West Australia where Miskulin kicked two goals to keep Victoria in the match.
“My match against West Australia stood out,” he said. “I kicked two goals for the game and played really well. I kicked the first goal, then they kicked a goal, then I kicked another one after that.
Miskulin also played the first half of the All-Star match against Queensland.
He was excited to be part of the All-Star team and hoped it would guide him towards an Australian jersey in years to come, with his next aim to play in Australia’s under-17 World Cup team.
The Challenge saw nine NTC teams take part, with Victoria finishing the tournament with five wins one draw and two losses.
