Waste station shuts down

CASEY residents will need to make alternative plans for the disposal of their recyclables after the Cemetery Road Transfer Station in Cranbourne closed last week.
The 12 January closure was under the Cranbourne Development Plan adopted by the council in 2007 to provide a number of opportunities for the future use of the site, once it has been rehabilitated.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said there were a number of alternative waste and transfer facilities available, including Outlook Environmental Transfer Station in Hampton Park and Lysterfield Transfer Station in Lysterfield.
A private transfer station in Skye is scheduled to open in 2012, providing an additional option for residents.
A Detox- Drop-Off Facility, currently situated at the Cemetery Road Transfer Station, will be relocated to the Outlook Environmental Transfer Station in Hampton Park some time in the next couple of months. It is a free facility for residents to dispose of paint, oil, household and car batteries and fluorescent light tubes and globes. Cr Aziz said due to improvements to the council’s hard waste collection service, residents could pre-book up to two hard waste collections per household each year, at a time that was convenient by calling 9729 9100.
“Council is committed to improving the way we do things across all services and, while this is a simple change, the convenience and flexibility of the new hard waste collection service is of real benefit to residents,” Cr Aziz said.
