THE Narre Warren Bowls Club started the New Year of pennant on Saturday, and with just six games remaining and with all three sides inside the top four, every game is now vital.
The Division Three team required a win to its top four position on the ladder and it did so by beating Hampton Park convincingly by 28 shots. With only one game separating the top five sides it was a great day for the black and whites that now hold down second place.
L. Klarica, A. Kidd, K. Mark and skipper I. Brotherton won 24/17. G. Cadman, R. Hoare, M. Fitt and skipper J. Parker won 28/18. S. Bell, W. Harringsma, R. Lane and skipper B. Brewster won 23/20. E. Veraga, S. Belcher, P. O’Day and skipper G. Manifold won 24/16.
The Division Five team travelled to Mentone knowing a win would keep it on top of the table but a loss could see it slip to fourth place. On a 17-second green in a flukey wind it was never going to be easy and the team did not handle the conditions well. With three rinks in a winning position at the half-way mark it was disappointing to finish up with only one rink successful. The team went down by 15 shots.
M. Graham, S. Lapham, K. Davis and skipper N. Hosmer lost 17/21. N. Bell, J. Hickman, S. Robinson and skipper P. Castricum lost 14/23. J. Vanhout, G. Miller, R. Pigdon and skipper F. Fox won 22/16. M. Rudelic, J. Zanon, J. Sheahan and skipper M. Horton lost 12/20.
The Division Seven team went two rinks each with Hampton but came out on top by 16 shots. The win keeps the side in fourth spot on the ladder.
J. Norman, K. Shell, P. Rouse and skipper G. Moxey lost 15/24. C. Lapham, L. O’Brien, H. McCombe and skip J. Green won 22/8. C. Bell, R. Pompe, B. Potter and skipper D. Rosario won 26/9. J. Dukats, J. Scanlon, J. Schwennesen and skipper S. Birkett lost 13/19.
