CAR enthusiasts and car hoarders may have to find somewhere else to store their motors.
The City of Casey is investigating whether to amend local law to only allow one unregistered and derelict vehicle on properties under 1000sqm instead of two vehicles. City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz moved the motion at a council meeting last week and said as block sizes in the municipality get smaller, there is less room for additional vehicles to be parked on the properties.
He also moved for council officers to investigate prohibiting the parking or placement of derelict/unregistered vehicles anywhere in the front garden or yard or 1000sqm or anywhere they may be visible from the roads.
“Block sizes are getting smaller, so I think it is an opportune time for the (current) local law to be removed,” councillor Aziz said. One of the City of Casey’s newest estates, Selandra Rise, has blocks as small as 212sqm, more than 100sqm than the smallest lot approved by Casey council about 10 years ago.
Cr Geoff Ablett questioned whether a new law would affect car collectors but Cr Aziz said Casey council would need to consider if collecting cars was appropriate for the size of land in the area.
Casey Manager Community Safety Caroline Bell said that the current City of Casey Community Local Law 2/2010 restricts the number of unregistered vehicles on a private property to two and the maximum penalty for breaching the law is $2000.
