COMMUNITY spirit was to the fore in Narre Warren South on the weekend when a group of generous strangers gathered to help a toddler in need.
Narre Warren South resident Daniela Bressan was reduced to tears of joy when about 40 people visited her family and revamped their home and yard on Saturday to make the space livable for three-year-old Hunter.
Hunter has a chronic illness in which he has more than 30 allergies. He reacts to dust, heat, grass and weeds. Hunter is also allergic to his bath water and needs to be bathed in bleach and pool salts.
In March, Ms Bresson told the News that Hunter had never been to the beach, could not go to playgroup or childcare and may have to be home schooled in the future. She said the doctors called him their bubble boy.
“We are like prisoners in our own home,” she said.
But though the kindness of strangers, Hunter will now have a taste of freedom.
The working bee was organized by Rodney Berry, who works with GMK Logistics and heard about Hunter’s story on FOX FM.
“I heard Daniela speaking to (FOX FM presenters) Matt and Jo and I thought there must be something I can do,” he said.
Mr Berry got permission from his boss Ken Pratt then recruited many other businesses in and around Narre Warren to help the Bressons.
“I was overwhelmed by the generosity of all the companies I spoke to. Everyone wanted to get on board,” Mr Berry said.
“It blew me away.”
Ms Bresson said she was amazed by the kindness of strangers.
“I didn’t know any of them – it was unbelievable,” she said.
“Their generosity was breathtaking. There are some great Aussies out there and one day we want to repay it back to the community.
“We can’t thank everyone involved enough. They are angels to us and will forever be in our heart.”
