AN ANZAC War memorial will be built in the River Gum Ward following a move made by a City of Casey Councillor last month.
At a general purpose meeting in May, Cr Lynette Keleher asked the council officers to prepare a report on the building of a memorial in her ward, including cost and suitable locations.
She asked that council officers consult with appropriate representatives from the RSL during the preparation of the report.
Ms Keleher said she thought it would be great not only to have a memorial in her electorate, but in every ward at Casey.
Cr Keleher asked that consideration should be given to “possibly locating the memorial in the River Gum Wetlands in Hampton Park or somewhere central in River Gum Ward compared to the other existing ANZAC War Memorials in the City of Casey.”
A report came back to council last week stating that the proposal for a war memorial in the River Gum ward had generated a lot of interest and support through initial consultation with local community groups. Council officers will now work with the community to ensure a number of suitable locations and designs are developed. Once the consultation process in complete, officers will compete a report identifying potential locations and concept designs.
A further report will be presented in August 2012 to council outline potential locations in the River Gum ward.
